Generally good but there wasn’t any staff available when my luggage didn’t appear at baggage claim in Fresno. It took about half an hour to locate a staff member to open up the locked room where it was being kept. Pilot was communicative, flight attendants were excellent. Really nice experience except my tv didn’t work.

On December 24, 2019, Spacey posted a follow-up short film to Let Me Be Frank titled KTWK to his YouTube channel, once again in-character as Frank Underwood. However, realizing Underwood killing Claire would destrory his legacy, Doug gave Underwood a lethal dose of his liver medication.

Kevin Spacey's House of Cards Character Frank Underwood 'Laid to Rest' in South Carolina Town.
A Democrat from South Carolina, Underwood took office following the resignation of his predecessor Garrett Walker. And one of those times is when he's giving a sermon in season one and he's talking about how deeply he loved his father and how heart wrenching it was when he lost his father. And then he turns to us and he tells us how little he cared about his father and he's sort of glad that he died, but that doesn't make for a good eulogy. And so what we're playing with there is the stories, the narratives that politicians often create in order to sell themselves. There is a big aspect of theater to politics, to what is the story I'm presenting that will make me seem powerful or compassionate or someone who feels your pain.
He also mortally wounds Meechum, who manages to kill him before succumbing to his injuries. Underwood is rushed to the hospital for immediate surgery, and falls into a coma. Stamper manages to bump him to the top of the transplant list, and he survives. He graduated from The Sentinel (a fictionalized version of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina) in 1980 and, subsequently, Harvard Law School in 1984. In season 2, he is the newly appointed Vice President of the United States, before becoming President of the United States in the season finale.

Claire and the Shepherds battle over deregulation measures, and Claire uses a chemical leak from one of the Shepherds' operations to embarrass the two. Doug, meanwhile, is in therapy following his confession to Zoe's murder, and Claire uses Assistant Director Green and his psychiatrist to monitor him. In the weeks before the 2016 election, Frank uses ICO as a pretext to enacting martial law in urban areas and consolidating polling places in key states.
House of Cards Season 6: Frank Underwood's Death Explained
Underwood is fond of the head of his Secret Service detail, Edward Meechum (Nathan Darrow), and it is hinted several times that they harbor unacknowledged sexual feelings for each other. Underwood has been described as conniving, Machiavellian, sociopathic, and a symbol of political corruption. Throughout the series, he manipulates and destroys several people, including those he calls friends, for his own ends. Underwood talks to Claire and asks about why she hasn't moved forward on his pardon. That afternoon, in the Oval Office, Claire is sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, with Underwood becoming First Gentleman and continuing to live in the White House until his death two months later in May 2017.
Season 1
While everybody else is scheming nonstop and jockeying for power, Doug is constantly switching sides as he tries to figure out which side will actually prevent Frank’s name from being dragged through the mud. Despite these traits, Underwood can be warm and gentle to those he truly cares about, particularly to Claire Underwood and to a lesser extent Zoe Barnes. He protects and takes care of those around him such as Doug and Steve and Edward Meechum, his bodyguards. With fellow schemers and politicians who understand his game, he has a definite respect for, such as Catherine Durant or Raymond Tusk. However, they can very easily become his enemies if they interfere with his plans. With others who are oblivious to his intentions or less intelligent, he adopts a different façade, acting more caring and generous than he really is to mask his true personality.
And the true killer is…
Claire convinces Mark Usher, of the Conway campaign, to support holding new elections in Ohio and Tennessee, rather than letting Congress decide. After spending a weekend at an elite getaway known as Elysian Fields, Underwood is given an incriminating tape of Conway. Underwood collaborates with Usher to win Ohio and Tennessee, winning him the election. After making a full recovery from the assassination attempt, Underwood believes that he and Claire are stronger together, and fully supports her effort to become Vice President. Weeks earlier, Dunbar had a meeting with Goodwin while she was campaigning in Ohio. With no way out, Dunbar withdrew her candidacy on May 16, allowing Underwood to become the presumptive nominee of the party.
Claire promises him that she will grant the pardons, but makes no mention of them during her first address to the nation as president. Angered, Underwood calls her several times, but each time he gets her voicemail, causing him to worry that she has abandoned him. He breaks the fourth wall and says, "If she doesn't pardon me, I'll kill her." Lucas Goodwin is released from prison and, seeking revenge for Barnes' death, shoots Underwood at a campaign rally, hitting him in the liver.
When Congress refused to pass and fund the program, Underwood utilized a clause in the Stafford Act and declared unemployment in Washington, D.C. He additionally fired Secretary of Homeland Security Steven Travers, and threatened Arnold Silva, allowing him to use funds from the FEMA Disaster Relief Fund to finance a pilot program in DC. As his presidency was off to a rocky start, Underwood, in an attempt to reverse his poor approval numbers, begins working on a program designed to bring unemployment to virtually undetectable levels, a program called America Works.
If others happen to be in your line of sight, a simple word to them usually puts their mind at rest. There are “No Photo” zones on the ship (the pool and nightclub are examples) where photography is verboten. Bring an open mind, try new foods and experiences (I tried nude yoga on deck every morning and learned how to make a toga out of my bedsheet), listen and engage. As hundreds of prior travelers have already proven, you will enjoy the experience so much, you’ll be coming back for more. You also don’t have to be nude all the time if you don’t want to be, there will usually be designated “clothing optional” areas where you can choose to cover up if you prefer. Give yourself time, if you are a little uncomfortable to start with then that’s perfectly normal.

A lighter aircraft is more efficient, consumes less fuel, costs less to maintain, and is subject to lower weight-based navigation and landing fees. The Boeing 747 can increase its velocity by using these jet streams because of its capacity to fly at high altitudes. Pilots use meteorological data to meticulously arrange their itineraries so they can air travel on these unseen sky lanes. In addition to cutting down on journey time, this deliberate usage of jet streams increases the Boeing 747’s overall speed and efficiency. Single-engine airplanes, such as the Cessna 172, fly considerably slower than commercial airplanes.

Referred to as the 747 Advanced prior to its launch, the uses similar General Electric GEnx engines and cockpit technology to the 787. The variant is designed to be quieter, more economical, and more environmentally friendly. The 747-8's fuselage is lengthened from 232 feet (71 m) to 251 feet (77 m),[202] marking the first stretch variant of the aircraft. In reality, how fast cruise ships go has little to do with the time of day and more to do with fuel efficiency, weather, the ship’s schedule, and passenger comfort. The 25,000 ton Olympia Voyager (aka Costa Voyager, Voyager, and Grand Voyager and now owned by Bohai Ferry Company) can travel as fast as 27 knots or 31 miles per hour. But 25,000 tons is very small by the standards of today’s cruise ships, and the Voyager is really an ocean liner and not a cruise ship. Even though cruise ships are immense in size, it’s amazing how fast they can travel. This speed translates into around 23 mph – 27 mph.How does “knots” translate into mph? You can simple multiply the knots figure by 1.15 to figure out how fast that is in miles per hour. Thirty knots is fast for a ship, and most cruise ships never travel at it.
Boeing 747-8
For the typical single-engine plane, you’ll be able to fly around 140 mph (122 knots). However, some of the more advance single-engine airplanes, like the Pilatus PC-12 NGX, have a top speed of 334 mph (290 knots). For most commercial airliners, the airplane’s cruising speed ranges between 550 and 600 mph (478 to 521 knots).
Some Notable Mentions for Fastest Cruise Ships
An aircraft’s speed, known as airspeed, is typically measured in four different ways. No matter which type you use, all airspeed is represented in knots. John Cox is a retired airline captain with US Airways and runs his own aviation safety consulting company, Safety Operating Systems.
The speed of a cruise on a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship, for example, is knots. And most other cruise lines have an average speed of between 19 and 22 knots. For perspective, a 20-knot average cruising speed is the same speed as 23 miles per hour on land. Below, we answer all of your questions on speed and cruise ships.
In addition to being long and thin, the wing’s high aspect ratio increases lift and lowers fuel consumption. Plus, the wing comes with a supercritical airfoil, decreasing drag at high speeds by delaying the introduction of shock waves and having a downward slope at the trailing edge. Its aerodynamic design, particularly its wing, makes the 747 quicker than other aircraft. To minimize drag and increase speed, the 747’s huge wings have a 37.5-degree high sweep angle.

Although this component is tuned for the 747-8, its foundation is the 787 Dreamliner engine. Boeing has studied a number of 747 variants that have not gone beyond the concept stage.
The Queen Mary 2 is the fastest ocean liner currently in service. It has an average speed of 28.5 knots but a maximum speed of 30 knots. Cruise captains maintain speed to get them to port on time, not too early or too late. Ports typically charge by the hour so getting there early is costly.
The first Boeing Freighter took to the skies on February 8, 2010. The airplane followed a route over Western Washington, where it underwent tests for basic handling qualities and engine performance. The airplane reached a cruising altitude of 17,000 feet (5,181 m) and a speed of up to 230 knots, or about 264 miles (426 km) per hour. While today’s commercial airplanes won’t take you across the Atlantic Ocean in less than a few hours, most major airliners travel at decent speeds. Commercial airplanes are non-military aircraft suited to carry passengers and/or freight between airports. Rolls-Royce followed 747 engine production with a launch order from British Airways for four aircraft.
However, captains can adjust the amount of thrust and the direction of each pod, allowing the vessel to turn or even travel in reverse. The Queen Mary 2 can make a transatlantic crossing in five days at its top speed. However, it usually sticks to its average cruising speed and makes the trip in seven days. So, if you’re interested in how cruise lines operate and what affects ship speed, keep reading.

RV trips are especially memorable for kids, as they can watch the landscape change, play games, and have all their favorite snacks on board. While there might be challenges, like ensuring younger kids don’t fall off the bed, the overall experience is enriching and fun for children. With the RV, our kids were able to take potty breaks when needed, and with the fridge right there, had plenty of juice and snacks whenever they wanted. Because of this, I typically didn’t drive more than four to five hours a day, taking the necessary stops. The longest I ever drove was when we were trying to get from Colorado Springs to Topeka, Kansas. It was eight hours of driving, but it took us 12 hours to complete.

Anyone who has forgotten some important item and then had to purchase it at double the price on the cruise ship or in a port of call will know that such a list can be invaluable.
First-Time Cruisers Plan Your First Cruise - Cruise Critic
Walking / Tennis Shoes – you know your style best, so if you’re planning on shore excursions with lots of walking involved, plan to pack a great pair of walking shoes. Loungewear – there’s nothing I like more than starting my morning in bed with a cup of coffee while reading on my iPad. On a cruise, I don’t want to have to walk to the buffet for coffee in my PJs, and also don’t want to fully dress in my outfit for the day. Grab a pair of soft pants and a zipper hoodie and you can make a dash for coffee without fully dressing for the day. This also works well for those days at sea when you just want to hang out and lounge around. Shorts – keep in mind you might be able to wear your shorts/bottoms more than one time.
While I am a firm believer that no one should pack anything they don't need, if I plan to check bags, I always bring this digital luggage scale with me. Cruise ships often have a list of items you cannot bring aboard. All your luggage goes through screening prior to boarding, and they will remove anything forbidden and hold it for you until the end of the cruise.
Cruise Line and Theme-Specific Items
Your swimwear is one of the most important things to take on a cruise! After all, you will be spending a lot of time in the pool or at the beach. You don’t need to bring a beach towel as they are provided onboard on the pool deck or when you’re leaving for excursions in port.

Most of the cruise lines have rules stating they don’t allow swimsuits or tank tops in certain areas of the ship. However, if you dress in what you would wear to a restaurant at home, you should be fine.
Reef-safe sunscreens are readily available in popular drugstores and other retailers. Virgin Islands, Aruba, and Hawaii are some of the locations that require these types of sunscreens. I learned how handy Ziploc bags can be on a cruise ship years ago, and this is always the first piece of advice I offer to first-time cruisers. Bigger plastic bags can also be used to store wet bathing suits and water shoes so your other clothes don’t get wet and dirty on your way home. In the post below, we have organized cruise necessities into several categories. You’ll find packing checklists for your boarding day carry-on bag, cruise essentials (including outfit planning), beach must haves, tips for cabin organization, and baby necessities. Keep in mind that if you’re doing some more adventurous shore excursion activities you might need to pack a more supportive shoe or hiking boot. Packing motion sickness remedies like wristbands, ginger tablets, or over-the-counter medications can be helpful. Additionally, mid-ship cabins on lower decks tend to experience less motion. Some allow a limited quantity of wine or champagne, while others might charge a corkage fee. Always check your cruise line’s specific policy beforehand. Setting sail on a cruise is more than just a vacation—it’s an odyssey of experiences, memories, and adventures.
If you can carry it with you to your cabin, you are welcome to take it aboard. Still, many people choose to check larger or heavier bags instead of carrying those by themselves. These bags are then delivered to your room later in the afternoon or evening. As we’ve mentioned, packing for a cruise is a little different than any other vacation. That’s because the rules for packing are more relaxed than if you are flying for a vacation.

What are the best 2025 repositioning cruises?
In the past, we’ve found two-week repositioning cruises on 5-star ships for as low as $300. In 2023, the least expensive repositioning cruise we’ve spotted is $446 for a 13-day late April voyage from Miami to England on the 5.5-star Celebrity Silhouette. The lowest price we’ve ever seen for a long-distance repositioning cruise was $159 per person for an inside cabin on the Pullmantur Monarch. That came out to only $12.23 per person, per day, as we wined and dined while crossing the Atlantic for two weeks!
Expert guidance. No booking fees.
These seasonal repositioning cruises occur in the greatest abundance twice per year, peaking around late March and well into April, and then again peaking again in October and November. There’s also more time to connect with crew and other passengers that you’ll see again and again throughout a lengthy repositioning cruise journey. We’ve found that people who take repositioning cruises often have the same mindset as us when it comes to travel, so bonds are easily formed with this mutual interest. Often repositioning cruises will transit passengers across vast oceans.

Add in half a dozen time zone changes, and each day proved to be challenging getting our biological clock in check, but we were also entertained about what we were experiencing. Along with those two events, our final night’s festivity, with a huge collection of balloons dropping from the top deck to the showroom floor, rivaled a New Year’s Eve celebration on the sea.

11 of the best transatlantic cruises for a once-in-a-lifetime sailing.
Rather than sail between the regions empty, cruise lines maximize usage of their ships by selling one-way trips known as repositioning cruises, often at big discounts on their usual fares. Transatlantic and other lengthy, ocean crossings once defined sea travel, but in modern times only one true ocean liner remains. Aside from Cunard’s Southampton to New York service, travelers seeking a transatlantic cruise are mostly left with world cruises or lengthy grand voyages, but there is another option. The availability of repositioning cruises largely revolves around the concept of seasonal changes. Unlike regular cruises that might stick to a certain route year-round, repositioning cruises is all about adapting to the season.
Travelers who live near the embarkation or debarkation ports can save even more by only having to buy a one-way plane ticket rather than a full round trip. Start in Barcelona and you’ll see Alicante and Gibraltar, with stops during the crossing in the Azores and Bermuda. From Rome, you’ll stop at ports such as Toulon in France, Palma de Mallorca, Cartagena, and Malaga before leaving Europe behind. With incredible weather, delicious fare and some stupendous attractions, you will find that Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades is one of the most attractive ports in the entire US.

AIDA Cancels Repositioning Cruises to Avoid Red Sea Security Concerns.
These grand voyages tend to bring out the romanticism of yesteryear, traveling by sea. There’s something so peaceful and relaxing about being in the middle of the ocean. Many popular repositioning cruise routes can perhaps be traced back to the golden days of ocean liners. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, ocean liners were the primary means used to travel long distances between continents. Transatlantic crossings were a common route during that period, which remains the most popular repositioning cruise itinerary today. One final reason that repositioning cruise routes are created is when cruise ships need to be moved for major refurbishments.
